Why Big Bass Boat is my new commute game

I picked up Big Bass Boat expecting a throwaway time-killer and ended up keeping it on my home screen for a month. It's a fishing simulator with a soft touch — you drift out onto a lake, choose where to cast, and settle into a rhythm that's genuinely relaxing.

What sold me is how honest the controls are. You nudge the boat with a throttle, cast with a swipe, and reel in by holding and easing off when the fish pulls. There's a real feel to that tension, and landing a big catch after a careful fight is oddly satisfying.

Progression is gentle. You unlock new lures and rods, and each new lake introduces different fish that behave differently. Big Bass Boat never rushes you or interrupts with anything, which is exactly why it works so well offline on the train.

If I had one wish it'd be more variety in fish behaviour later on. But as a game to unwind with, no signal required, it's earned its spot. Cast, wait, breathe — that's the whole appeal, and it's a good one.
